RECORDING BEGINS

AGENT COLLINS:
Mr. Konch.
SUBJECT:
I want a lawyer.
AGENT COLLINS:
That request has been noted.
SUBJECT:
Am I under arrest?
AGENT COLLINS:
No.
SUBJECT:
Then why am I here?
AGENT COLLINS:
Because you know where the artifact is.

08:02

SUBJECT:
I told you before. I don't have it.
AGENT COLLINS:
Correct.
You no longer have it.
[PAUSE]
AGENT COLLINS:
That is the problem.

08:11

AGENT COLLINS:
Three months ago, on March 17th, you discovered an object beneath Hive 12.
SUBJECT:
I found scrap metal.
AGENT COLLINS:
No.
You found Artifact 7-Alpha.
SUBJECT:
I don't know what that is.
AGENT COLLINS:
Neither do we.
That is why recovery remains a priority.

08:17

SUBJECT:
What was it?
AGENT COLLINS:
An object.
SUBJECT:
What kind of object?
AGENT COLLINS:
One that should not have existed.

08:23

[FILE PLACED ON TABLE]
AGENT COLLINS:
Do you recognize this photograph?
SUBJECT:
That's my hive.
AGENT COLLINS:
No.
Look again.
[LONG SILENCE]
SUBJECT:
...What is that?
AGENT COLLINS:
That photograph was taken four days before you found the artifact.
SUBJECT:
Okay?
AGENT COLLINS:
The artifact is visible in the photograph.
SUBJECT:
That's impossible.
AGENT COLLINS:
Correct.

08:34

SUBJECT:
I don't understand.
AGENT COLLINS:
Neither did the last team.
SUBJECT:
What happened to them?
[PAUSE]
AGENT COLLINS:
They stopped asking useful questions.

08:46

AGENT COLLINS:
Where did you move it?
SUBJECT:
I didn't move anything.
AGENT COLLINS:
Mr. Konch.
SUBJECT:
I didn't.
AGENT COLLINS:
Then explain the bees.

08:47

SUBJECT:
The bees?
AGENT COLLINS:
Yes.
The bees.
After you removed the artifact, every hive within a five-mile radius altered its behavior.
SUBJECT:
How?
AGENT COLLINS:
They began carrying dirt.
SUBJECT:
Bees carry dirt sometimes.
AGENT COLLINS:
Not from graves.

08:58

[EXTENDED SILENCE]

09:04

AGENT COLLINS:
We excavated fourteen locations identified by the bees.
SUBJECT:
And?
AGENT COLLINS:
The artifact wasn't there.
SUBJECT:
Then why are you questioning me?
AGENT COLLINS:
Because something else was.

09:05

SUBJECT:
Something else?
AGENT COLLINS:
Yes.
[PAUSE]
AGENT COLLINS:
The bees had buried photographs.
SUBJECT:
Photographs of what?
AGENT COLLINS:
You.

09:13

SUBJECT:
This is insane.
AGENT COLLINS:
Perhaps.
The photographs were taken before your employment, here.

09:18

SUBJECT:
...
AGENT COLLINS:
Exactly.

09:26

SUBJECT:
I want to leave.
AGENT COLLINS:
You may.
As soon as you tell us where the artifact is.
SUBJECT:
I DON'T KNOW.
AGENT COLLINS:
Mr. Konch.
[PAUSE]
AGENT COLLINS:
The artifact knows your name.

09:31

SUBJECT:
How do you know that?
AGENT COLLINS:
Because it spoke during containment.
SUBJECT:
Spoke?
AGENT COLLINS:
Briefly.
SUBJECT:
What did it say?
[LONG SILENCE]
AGENT COLLINS:
It asked us where you were.

09:37

SUBJECT:
...
AGENT COLLINS:
You understand our concern.

09:45

AGENT COLLINS:
Mr. Konch.
One final opportunity.
Where is the artifact?
SUBJECT:
I don't know.
AGENT COLLINS:
Very well.
[DOCUMENTS SHUFFLING]
SUBJECT:
What's that?
AGENT COLLINS:
Form 88-B.
SUBJECT:
What's Form 88-B?
AGENT COLLINS:
Notification of Bee-Eater Deployment.

09:46

SUBJECT:
You're threatening my bees..?
AGENT COLLINS:
No.
The bees are already involved.
The Bee-Eaters are for our protectioin.

09:47

[LONG SILENCE]

09:52

SUBJECT:
...I buried it.
AGENT COLLINS:
Where?
SUBJECT:
I don't know anymore.
AGENT COLLINS:
Explain.
SUBJECT:
Every morning it was somewhere else.

09:53

AGENT COLLINS:
What do you mean?
SUBJECT:
I buried it six times.
AGENT COLLINS:
And?
SUBJECT:
Every morning it was waiting somewhere different.

09:54

SUBJECT:
I stopped digging after the seventh time.
AGENT COLLINS:
Why?
SUBJECT:
Because it stopped moving.
AGENT COLLINS:
Where?
[EXTENDED SILENCE]
SUBJECT:
...
AGENT COLLINS:
Mr. Konch.
SUBJECT:
You won't believe me.
AGENT COLLINS:
Try.
SUBJECT:
It stopped moving when I buried it under the hive.

09:55

AGENT COLLINS:
Which hive?
SUBJECT:
[REDACTED].
